Objectives and Deliverables

Objectives

Hazard Estimation

To map the potential dengue fever hazard of Hong Kong based on the survey data of ovitraps and land and meteorological predictors.

Vulnerability Evaluation

To identify the socioeconomic determinants of dengue fever vulnerability and estimate the Hong Kong population’s vulnerability to dengue fever based on the determinants using principal component analysis.

Risk Assessment

To detect the Hong Kong population’s risk to the dengue fever hazard at the community scale with the triangle weighting method combining hazard, exposure, and vulnerability.

Management Refinement

To provide the understanding about hotspots and determinants of dengue fever risk to refine the current dengue-fever-related prevention, surveillance, control, and management in Hong Kong and propose future plans from the perspectives of information services, surveillance adjustment, health actions, urban planning, etc.

Deliverables

Method of Dengue Fever risk mapping

A workflow for mapping dengue fever risk in non-endemic high-density city will be proposed and validated. This method can be refered by other cities for supporting the prevention of dengue fever transmission.

Thematic Seminar

One seminar is planned to disseminate our research findings and collect the feedback from different stakeholders at the end of the project period.

Public workshop

A workshop for general education, interactive training, and GIS-based websites displaying the DF-risk hotspots towards different end users will be held. The workshop will engage relevant stakeholders including interested government departments, building/estate management industries, professional bodies, NGOs and high-risk communities. Research findings, application of the mapping results, and the GIS-based websites on DF-risk will be promoted.

Knowledge Transfer

Assist mosquito control and measurement; Support decision-making on dengue surveillance, control and protection policies and actions; Present the impact of built environment factors in Hong Kong based on our mapping results about dengue fever hazard, vulnerability and risk.
